City center

Grevenbroich's city centre is characterized by a large number of owner-managed stores, a wide range of gastronomic offerings and the centrally located market square, which serves as an attractive attraction. It combines quality of life, shopping opportunities and a place to experience all in one.

Regular events offer citizens and visitors additional incentives to visit and linger in the city center.

GFWS services:
  • Attracting new retailers
The digital tool “CityFlächen” aims to reduce vacant stores and bring new life to the city. In 2024, the vacancies in the city center were recorded and advertised. From 2025, the tool will also be used for vacant or falling vacant retail spaces in the city districts.

  • Connecting stakeholders: Interessens- und Standortgemeinschaft (ISG)

The City Center Interessens- und Standortgemeinschaft (ISG) plays a central role in the further development and revitalization of our city center. This committed association of city center stakeholders develops new ideas and campaigns to make the heart of Grevenbroich even more attractive.
From organizing a wide range of events and promoting art and culture to supporting local businesses - the ISG is actively committed to making the town centre a lively and inviting place for everyone.

  • Strengthen tourism: Visitor guidance system
The GFWS has developed a visitor guidance system. There are currently 30 signs with destination points and low-barrier information on estimated walking times. The visitor guidance system will be gradually expanded.
In 2025, some signs in the guidance system will be equipped with QR codes that provide information on the destination points. These will also be available in easy language.

  • Increase the quality of stay

The GFWS has financed the installation of new benches in the city center, such as two play flowers on Synagogenplatz. Commissioned by the city's city centre committee, the GFWS developed an action plan in 2022, which will be implemented successively, also with the involvement of funding, with the participation or leadership of other parts of the administration. The replacement of outdated seating, the greening of the city center with planters and the integration of play facilities for a family-friendly city are the results of this work.

  • Target and action concept for the city center
The GFWS has been commissioned to put such a concept out to tender in 2025 and to oversee its implementation. A politically appointed steering committee will select the provider that will support the GFWS and the city of Grevenbroich with a concept and initial concrete proposals for measures to make the city center even more future-proof.

  • Advice on business start-ups/retail settlements
The GFWS advises start-ups and companies interested in relocating to Grevenbroich. The advice covers the selection of a suitable property, the pilot function within the city and economic issues.

  • GFWS projects to revitalize the city centre

GFWS successfully operated a pop-up store for apprenticeships in the Grevenbroich pedestrian zone from September 2024 to February 2025. The GFWS is currently developing a concept for the realignment of Monti, a large inner-city shopping center. The GFWS offers city vouchers that can be used to store in many Grevenbroich stores. They also look after many Grevenbroich manufacturers and craft businesses that sell their “Grevenbroich originals” at the Grevenbroich Christmas market. The GFWS takes care of the organization, sales and advertising.
